Meeting in Wrigleyville

This picture here is my good friend Andy Turner - or A.T. Turner as he’s known in certain circles - and myself posing last night outside a location at the corner of Addison and Ashland in Chicago. Andy and his wife, Corri, went to Wrigley on Tuesday to see the Cubs host the Phillies. Andy is a huge Phillies fan, it was his first trip to Wrigley and with the Cubs losing the game, it all worked out pretty well for my friend.
Jason and I went down to Wrigleyville to meet Andy and Corri for a couple of drinks, and it was a fun time to take our little Milwaukee show into, really in my mind, what is one of the nicest but also most annoying neighborhoods in America. I just do not enjoy at all the Chicago Cubs fans and culture. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it, but I dislike Water Street enough without having an entire major league baseball team’s popularity structured around that culture.
Anyway, it was another good day just hanging out in Chicago. We checked out a bunch of different neighborhoods and watched the local talent at a skateboard park off Lake Shore Drive during the afternoon.
The completely meaningless - or is it? - part about the picture at the top of the page is that Andy and I are posing in front of a bridal shop. We were trying to pose in front of a sign in the window that said “Furs” but it didn’t quite work out. Anyway, friends and good times in Chicago.

O’ Danny’s south. Nice.
I was actually dying laughing the otherday talking about old old school water street insitution “Brooklyn’s” a favorite haunt of Milwaukee Bucks forward, Marty Conlon.
Now its’ some probably some place with a wet t-shirt contest called “T.J. McDrinkies Jr. Super Sports bar”
man, that place is the funniest. “Luke’s Sports Spectacular!”
$500.00 to the 1st Scribbler reader that can hook me up with a 1987 Satin Softball jacket from “Lukes’
Maybe $100.00 for an Asche’s softball jacket.

One of my favorite “Jim fall from grace” moments was during college when I tried calling my mom one day, and I left a bunch of messages but she didn’t call back until later that night.
I asked her where she had been because I was a little worried about her, and she said that her and my grandma were at Asche’s. I was freaked out and asked her why she went with my grandma - her mother - to a neighborhood south side corner bar that is legendary for great softball teams.
My mom said to me, “What?! We were at Ash Wednesday, getting our ashes.” It was friggin’ Ash Wednesday, and I had no clue. I think my mom gave up a little hope that day. Anyway, I still think that’s hilarious. I confuse Asche’s the bar with Ash Wednesday.

That’s priceless. That stuff still cracks me up when I would see like 50 year old business men with the ashes on their head during the day in Milwaukee.
yeah…..and the terrorists are insane religous extremists.
